The Memorial Arena’s ice plant is up and running to build an ice surface in the Kinsmen Arena.
City officials said the unit is operating at a reduced capacity on a generator, so they are not quite sure when the ice surface will be ready just yet.
“The ice plant is currently running on the generator for safety reasons because crews are doing work close to the high voltage hydro ducts for the new cement footings for the roof beams,” said city officials. “The City will provide an update once dates and ice times become available.”
Repair work to the Memorial Arena is ongoing.
“Even with the extreme weather the past week or so, the Memorial Arena Structure project continues to push forward with the excavation of multiple foundations and cutting the beams to fit the new steel structures,” said city officials. “The glulam beams that were in the worst condition have been cut and passed the assessment for structural integrity.”
The city said crews are working on schedule and under the allotted budget.
“The coordinated efforts of crews on both sides of the building show commitment to completing the project efficiently,” said city staff.
