Elk Valley under winter storm warning

The snowfall warning issued for the Elk Valley was changed to a winter storm warning on Tuesday.

Environment Canada officials said they expect hazardous winter conditions as heavy snow is predicted to blanket the area.

“A strong low-pressure system moving through B.C. will continue to give heavy snow today and tonight (Tuesday),” said Environment Canada officials. “Further snowfall of up to 30 centimetres is expected near Fernie by Wednesday morning.”

The forecaster said rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations and heavy snowfall may impact visibility.

Environment Canada officials ask you to consider delaying non-essential travel until conditions improve.
