City urges safety on Idlewild Rink

The City of Cranbrook is urging caution on the ice surface at Idlewild Lake.

City officials said public works do not monitor ice thickness or maintain surfaces outside the designated skating area.

“With the lack of snow, users of the ice surface at Idlewild Lake have been chasing pucks and exploring the lake outside of the maintained area,” said city officials. “Skating outside of the designated area could result in injury or death.”

City officials said users are also asked to refrain from drilling holes in the ice surface, as this can weaken the ice and create uneven surfaces.

“Ensuring that all the rules are followed will allow the ice surface at Idlewild to remain open to everyone and ensure the safety of all,” said city staff.
