Chemical spill closes RDEK’s Columbia Valley office

The Regional District of East Kootenay’s office in the Columbia Valley is closed until further notice following a chemical spill.

RDEK officials said the building is being vented after the spill happened in the water treatment plant.

The building has been cleared and the fire department has been dispatched to ensure the building is safe to re-enter, as per the RDEK’s standard emergency response plan.

No injuries were reported and all employees were able to safely exit the building.

RDEK officials said the office will remain closed until further notice.
