Golden Rockets Open KIJHL Action in Cranbrook

The Golden Rockets are set to play their first home game in Cranbrook on Friday, while the Kimberley Dynamiters look for their 11th and 12th straight wins on the road.

Kimberley officially got an early start to the KIJHL weekend as they opened a three-game road trip on Thursday in 100 Mile House. The Dynamiters downed the Wranglers 4-2 to win stretch their winning streak to 10 games. Brock Palmer collected one assist in the win, leaving him just one point shy of 200 in his KIJHL career and 15 points from becoming the Kimberley Dynamiters’ all-time scoring leader. Kimberley continues its road trip Friday and Saturday against the Sicamous Eagles and the Chase Heat.

Meanwhile, Cranbrook gets its first taste of the KIJHL this year as the Golden Rockets host the Nelson Leafs on Friday. Puck drop is slated for 8:15 pm from the Cranbrook Memorial Arena. The Rockets are playing their December home games in Cranbrook after Golden Arena was forced to close indefinitely due to the facility’s failing ammonia ice chiller. Golden will then hit the road on Saturday to battle the Ghostriders at Fernie Memorial Arena at 7:30.

Prior to their home game on Saturday, Fernie will be on the road Friday night as they take on the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. Riding a six-game winning streak, the Ghostriders will look to keep their momentum rolling when they venture into Fruitvale for a 7:00 pm puck drop.

Other action in the Eddie Mountain Division has the Columbia Valley Rockies set to host back-to-back games as they look to break a three-game slide. The Rockies are stationed at Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena this weekend in Invermere where they get set to entertain the Castlegar Rebels at 7:30 pm Friday ahead of Saturday’s 7:30 pm contest against the Nelson Leafs.

The Creston Valley Thunder Cats have just one game this weekend as they welcome the Castlegar Rebels to Johnny Bucyk Arena for a 7:30 pm matchup on Saturday.
