Kimberley Alpine Resort gearing up for opening day

Get your winter gear ready, as Kimberley Alpine Resort is getting set to open the 2023/24 ski season on Friday.

Resort officials said the lifts start up on Dec. 15.

“We are so grateful for all who ski and ride with us each winter,” said Matt Mosteller, Senior VP of Marketing and Resort Experience with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR). “Kimberley is so good for so many reasons, but most importantly it is the passion of the people and the strong commitment to skiing and winter adventures that this community has”

The resort will have several events scheduled over the holidays to celebrate the season.

“We’ll have live music in The Stemwinder Bar & Grill, Night Skiing, S’mores Fat Bike and Snowshoe Tours, Santa Claus himself, annual Family New Year’s Eve Party with Fireworks lighting up the mountain at 9 p.m. and much more,” said RCR officials. “In addition to our holiday fun, we have a tremendous lineup of events all season long.”

The resort will also host Dreadnaught Ski Racing events, which RCR officials said could bring about $1.8 million into the local economy.

BC Transit will help residents and visitors get to and from the slopes amid the ski season, however, it will not be starting up right away.

According to BC Transit, the Peak to Platzl Downtown Shuttle will begin taking passengers on Dec 27.

The free route will take passengers between the ski hill and Kimberley’s downtown shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Peak to Platzl Downtown Shuttle will be in operation until April 7, 2024.
