Elk Valley RCMP cracks down on impaired driving

Six roadside suspensions were issued in a successful National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day for the Elk Valley RCMP.

Road checks were set up throughout the evening hours on Saturday in Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie.

The checks produced one roadside 24-hour suspension for drug use, three provincial roadside suspensions and two 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions.

Five were located in Fernie while the remaining one was in Sparwood.

“Staff had prepared Candy Cane Check Stop appreciation tickets to hand out to those drivers who were found to be obeying provincial and criminal driving regulations. We appreciate all drivers who obey any traffic law to keep our roads safer during the holidays and, of course, any other time of year,” stated S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
