Work to complete the Ross Lake fire guard near the Alberta/B.C. border is underway in Yoho National Park.
Access to the project is prohibited and an area closure is in place until further notice.
Parks Canada officials said the guard will be a fuel break to help reduce the risk of wildfire to nearby communities.
There will most likely be some trail closures affecting the Great Divide trail and Ross Lake trail.
Residents in the area can expect to see some smoke from pile burnings.
