Memorial Arena preliminary findings to be provided at Monday council meeting

Cranbrook city council will be receiving the preliminary findings for the roof structure of the Memorial Arena during Monday night’s council meeting.

The arena was closed on Sept. 26 due to structural concerns with the roof.

City staff say 30 groups use ice time in Cranbrook, 21 have opted for ice time, while the 9 adult user groups have opted out.

All youth groups have scheduled ice time.

The Western Financial Place is booked from 5:15 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. seven days per week.

Some local communities have also stepped up.

“I want to thank Canal Flats, the City of Kimberley and our neighbouring communities for their generous support in helping provide additional ice time at their facilities to players and teams,” says Trevor Thors, Director of Recreation and Culture.

An engineer will be giving an update to council on Oct. 16 including a discussion on the next steps.

Council meetings can be attended by the public in person as well as online.
