Rockies and Dynamiters still top of division

The Kimberley Dynamiters and Columbia Valley Rockies are the top teams in the Eddie Mountain Division after another strong weekend by both teams.

The Dynamiters won both their games including a big 8-2 win over the North Okanagan Knights and a 5-3 win over the Castlegar Rebels.

I thought we were really, really good on Friday, really hard to play against and everyone was playing well,” said head coach and GM Derek Stuart.

“I felt Saturday that we relied on our goaltender and our penalty kill to get the job done, but we were able to capitalize on a few scoring chances. I didn’t really care for our overall play on Saturday.”

The Rockies were shut out by the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Friday but came back with a 5-2 win over the Golden Rockets the next day.

“I was really happy in both games with how we played,” said head coach and GM Taylor Sincennes.

“On Friday night we missed some Grade A opportunities to score, if we put those in the net it’s a tighter game and we probably have a chance to win the game but we didn’t. Saturday night we played really well. The pucks went in, loads of shots, we heavily outshot them and won 5-2 so two really good efforts over the weekend and only got rewarded in one of them.”

Both teams are tied with 10 points but the Dynamiters have a game in hand.

The Rockets didn’t fair as well over the weekend.

They lost to the Fernie Ghostriders 6-1 on Friday and 5-2 to the Rockies.

“We’re really struggling at the moment to get the puck in the net and that’s costing us,” said head coach and GM Chuck Wight.

“We’ve been working hard at that as a team to get better at that. You want that compete level to stay high and that improved over the weekend and we’ll carry that into next weekend.”

The Fernie Ghostriders defeated the Rockets 6-1 but lost 3-2 to the Knights.
