Winter tire requirement back for another season

Winter tires are once again required for most highways in B.C.

Chains or winter tires are required on most routes in the province from Oct. 1 to April 30 every year.

This applies to all highways in the Interior and North regions and some of the South Coast and Vancouver Island regions.

Tires need to have an M+S symbol and a minimum tread depth of 3.5 millimetres.

Passenger vehicles without proper tires could be fined $121.

Commercial vehicles bypassing an active chain-up area can be fined $598 and $196 if not carrying chains.
