Strong opening weekend for Columbia Valley Rockies

Last weekend was the start of the regular season for both the KIJHL and the BCHL.

All of our teams had games, but none had a stronger first weekend than the Columbia Valley Rockies.

The Rockies beat the Spokane Chiefs handily on Friday winning 7-0.

They followed it up the next night with another seven-goal game beating the Princeton Posse 7-2.

The Kimberley Dynamiters split their opening weekend matchups.

They beat the Osoyoos Coyotes 4-2 but fell to the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in a close 3-2 game.

The Golden Rockets played three times over the weekend.

They didn’t get off to a hot start losing 4-2 to the Posse and 4-1 to the Chiefs, but they followed it up with a big 6-3 win over the Coyotes.

The Fernie Ghostriders only had one game, but it was a decisive 8-3 victory over the Coyotes.

Over in the BCHL, the Cranbrook Bucks had their first regular season games of the season.

They defeated the Trail Smoke Eaters in overtime on Friday winning 4-3 but lost 3-1 on Saturday to the Vernon Vipers.

Local hockey action continues on Friday.
