Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services is responding to a gas leak on 2nd Street South and 17th Avenue Thursday.
Both FortisBC and Cranbrook Public Works are also responding to the scene.
“Crews are working diligently to resolve this incident as safely and quickly as possible,” said the City of Cranbrook. “This incident is adjacent to Laurie Middle School, and the staff and student are safe at this time.”
The City of Cranbrook said they are coordinating with School District 5 to ensure the continuation of a regular school day.
Traffic will be interrupted on 2nd Street South as the emergency responders and city crews are on scene.
“Please avoid any unnecessary travel to that area at this time.”
The City of Cranbrook said they will continue to post updates on the situation as they become available.
