Work on Phase 2 of the Moir Park Perimeter Trail is set to start this weekend, with JCI Kootenay calling out for volunteers to help.
The project will be conducted by the Rotary Club of Cranbrook in partnership with JCI Kootenay with sponsorship from McElhanney, the City of Cranbrook, BA Blacktop and Emco Waterworks.
“This a great example of people and businesses from Cranbrook working together to create a trail to allow people with all physical abilities to enjoy Moir Park and what Cranbrook has to offer,” said lead trail designer and past JCI Kootenay President Derek Penson
JCI officials said this part of the project will involve a paved trail around the soccer field, offering a connection with the new disk golf course.
“Moir Park is quickly becoming a real gem in Cranbrook, and we are excited to continue our work to polish that gem,” said past JCI BC/Yukon Regional President and geotechnical consultant Marcus Brown.
JCI officials said residents, members of the Rotary Club of Cranbrook and JCI Kootenay, and other volunteers will strip out sod to make way for a gravel foundation for future paving.
JCI officials said they are looking for volunteers who can help with manual labour or those who know how to run a bobcat.

JCI officials ask that any volunteers meet at the part at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Phase 2 is expected to be wrapped up by late October, but there’s more coming in the future.
“Future phases will see the trail continued around the perimeter of the park and connect to the Rotary Trail and City of Cranbrook cycling/walking networks,” said JCI officials.
