Elk Valley RCMP respond to wildlife encounter in West Fernie

Elk Valley RCMP are looking into a report of a dangerous wildlife encounter in West Fernie.

RCMP officials said the report came in on Friday from a woman who was riding her bike along the Elk River Dike Trail near MacDonald Avenue.

Police said what was believed to be a grizzly bear knocked her off her bike, but she was uninjured in the incident.

RCMP and BC Conservation officers responded to the area in an attempt to find the bear.

“Elk Valley RCMP are urging residents in the area to use extra caution,” said Elk Valley RCMP.
