Part of Fernie’s Mt. Mclean Road to close for construction

A section of Fernie’s Mt. Mclean Road will be closed while a contractor works on the Mountview Dike.

City officials said crews will work on the dike and replace an existing stormwater culvert under the roadway.

The project will run from Sept. 18 to Oct. 31 and will close the gravel path south of Mt. View Park Road.

“In 2020, the City began to extend the Mountview Dike to close a gap in our flood protection. Due to costs, we weren’t able to complete the full extension,” said city officials. “This project completes the extension of the Mountview Dike and ties it into high ground to complete the dike as per the recommendations of the City’s 2019 Flood Mitigation Plan.”

“The culvert underneath Mt. Mclean Drive that directs Castle Creek into the Elk River is also being replaced to improve stormwater management in the area.”

City officials said signs will be posted at Mt. Trinity Ave and Minton Road with notices delivered to nearby residents.
