Cranbrook OCP amendment passes first reading

Cranbrook city council has let an Official Community Plan amendment regarding the St. Mary Neighbourhood plan pass first reading.

The proposed amendment would allow the development of single-family lots, duplexes, townhouse units and multifamily condo units in the Shadow Mountain area.

The area is currently designated for primarily “Estate Single Family Residential” development.

“The original concept in the neighbourhood plan contemplated up to 301 units total on the east side lands,” said city staff.

“The largest increase is seen in the multi-family category of which none have been built to date. If approved, the maximum number of units on the east side (including the adjacent lands) could be 481.”

The amendment passed first reading with a 6-1 vote.

Councillor Wayne Stetski was the lone opposed vote.
