Disaster financial assistance opened for communities affected by wildfires

The B.C. government has opened up disaster financial assistance for municipalities and First Nations where public damage due to wildfire had been reported.

All Indigenous communities, electoral areas and municipalities affected within the geographic boundaries of specific regional districts can apply.

Communities impacted within the Regional District of East Kootenay are eligible.

This includes the ʔaq̓am community which lost seven homes in the St. Mary River Wildfire.

The funding covers losses not covered by insurance, such as roads, bridges and other publicly owned infrastructure.

People affected by wildfires are encouraged to contact their insurance representative.

Communities are asked to apply as soon as possible. The application deadline is 90 days after the end of the wildfire event.

Application details can be found here.
