B.C. extends provincial state of emergency in response to wildfires

The provincial state of emergency in British Columbia has been extended for another two weeks because of the wildfire situation.

Emergency Management Minister Bowinn Ma announced the extension on Thursday.

She said there are just over 420 active fires in BC right now, with 4,200 people evacuated and another 65,000 on alert.

Ma also said the ongoing drought in the province could last into next year.

On Wednesday, the state of emergency in the Northwest Territories was extended to September 11th.
