Environment Canada officials said heavy rain will hit the East Kootenay overnight on Tuesday, bringing a risk of localized flooding.
The forecaster is predicting rainfall to start late in the evening and continue into the following day.
“An upper low crossing the Idaho Panhandle tonight and moving into northwestern Montana on Wednesday will bring periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms to parts of the Kootenays,” said Environment Canada officials. “30 to 50 mm of rain will fall resulting in locally high rainfall rates which may lead to pooling of water on roads, rapid rises of creeks and rivers and poor visibility.”
The rain is expected to east off to scattered showers by Wednesday afternoon.
