Kimberley approves Forest Crowne Phase 4

Kimberley City Council has approved a development permit for Forest Crowne Phase 4.

City officials said the six-hectare lot is proposed to have a significant number of freehold lots once completed.

“The plan is to build 41 new residential lots,” explained Kimberley CAO Scott Sommerville. “The developer is picking up where they left off with Phase 3, and they’re putting lots in an emerging subdivision in Kimberley.”

That said, there are some stipulations to the approval.

“There are some rules around that as far as covenants around awareness of the wildfire hazard conditions,” said Sommerville. “It sets requirements for vegetation, landscaping and exterior design that fits with the FireSmart guidelines we’re trying to implement throughout the city.”

Utility lines, such as water, sewage and power, will need to be installed before any serious construction begins.

“There will be quite a bit of work just preparing the lots,” said Sommerville. “That will be up to the developer, but I imagine they will get started on that any time now.”

The completed Forest Crowne neighbourhood will also include a paved path network around the perimeter of Phase 4, providing a view of Marysville and the St. Mary River Valley.

This was one of three housing permits approved in Monday night’s meeting.

“It’s really exciting to see that new housing stock and that continuum of different types of focusing,” said Sommerville. “We’re trying to catch up with population growth because the population is growing faster than the housing stock.”
