Elkford Increases Cost of Parking Tickets

The District of Elkford has decided to make parking on the road during winter more costly.

Parking on the road instead of in a driveway will now incur a $50 fine, up from $35. The increase brings Elkfords fines to a similar point to Fernie and Sparwood.

“Our ticketing bylaw was outdated for parking on the streets during snow removal season,” said Elkford Mayor Dean McKerracher. “The snow has hit us a few times already and we’ve had issues with having to paw around vehicles.”

McKerracher added that he feels it is unnecessary for residents to park on the street when they have access to a garage, driveway or parking lot.

“Every year is a problem for parking on the street. We can’t get our plows around town because of the vehicles.”
