Kimberley’s Fire Department has begun a controlled burning in the Nature Park area.
Burning is scheduled to take a few days, depending on when the flames die off, after which, crews will begin clean-up.
“The burns help control the undergrowth, so we can reduce the risk to the community from wildfires,” said Rick Prasad, Kimberley Fire Chief. “The burns occur at such times where the fire can be easily controlled and managed. So, if something blows in over the summer, that fuel is already gone.”
Prasad added that he is hopeful that smoke from the flames will not cause much of an inconvenience to residents.
“We’re hoping that conditions will work for us and we won’t see a lot of smoke in town.”
Prasad said the next controlled burn is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2020.
