Local golf courses make it to Canada’s top 59 for 2023

Six local golf destinations have been named among Canada’s top 59 public courses by SCOREGolf.

SCOREGolf officials said their list ranks the top 59 across the country for the year, with courses ranked in nine categories.

Those deciding factors include beauty, design, strategy, challenge, par 3s, par 4s, par 5s, conditioning, and the all-important fun factor.

Greywolf Golf Course in Panorama sits at number eight on the SCOREGolf list, making it the only local destination to broach the top 10.

“While the highlight of Greywolf is the par-3 sixth hole, known as Cliffhanger, this Doug Carrick course is an all-around great test and enjoyable round marked by dramatic elevation changes and pristine conditioning,” said SCOREGolf officials.

It was bumped a few spots down in this year’s rank after it earned 6th place in 2021.

Invermere’s Eagle Ranch made the list at 31st, holding steady from its 2021 ranking.

Shadow Mountain in Cranbrook sits at 47th on the list, maintaining a presence, but fell from its previous ranking at 38th.

“A relative newcomer to the Canadian golf course scene, Shadow Mountain, in the interior of British Columbia, has delighted golfers since opening in 2009,” said SCOREGolf officials. “With massive elevation drops, particularly on the 15th and 17th holes, great vistas are everywhere. This is an exhilarating experience.”

Trickle Creek in Kimberley make the list after missing out in 2021, but the course earned a spot at 48th place for 2023.

Copper Point Golf Course was ranked just a few spots down in 50th, falling from 34th in 2021 but managing to hold its recognition.

Lastly, in 56th place: Wildstone Golf Course in Cranbrook kept its ranking on the SCOREGolf list but fell from its 45th place spot in 2021.

“Situated on rolling highlands high above the city of Cranbrook, Wildstone has impressed since opening and has the good fortune of being the only Gary Player Design course in Canada,” said SCOREGolf officials. “Fairways are framed by tall pine trees while golden fescue and white-sand bunkers provide brilliant colour contrasts.”

Cabot Cliffs in Nova Scotia was ranked number one on the top 59 golf courses for 2023 by SCOREGolf.
