More ʔaq̓am residents off of evacuation alert

The evacuation alert for 26 ʔaq̓am homes has been rescinded, now that crews are holding the St. Mary River fire at bay.

The evacuation order for 36 properties remains in effect.

Those are the only homes still under an order or alert after the RDEK rescinded the alert for 667 properties on Friday.

The wildfire that was sparked two weeks ago by downed power lines is now being held. The blaze is an estimated 4,640 hectares.

Mission Wasa Low Road remains closed to the public until tree falling can occur.

BC Hydro is working on turning power back on to the community and ʔaq̓am is working with a contractor to undertake assessments on the damage done to the community.
