Forecast a concern for local fires, but crews making good ground

Dry lightning in the forecast could cause some issues for wildfire crews in our region, but the BC Wildfire Service has been making good ground against our local blazes.

The St. Mary River Wildfire still hasn’t grown since Saturday.

Crews will be evaluating then evacuation alerts are safe to be rescinded and resources will be moved to other fires.

The fire is still an estimated 4,100 hectares.

Crews will be doing some prescribed burns for the Lladnar Creek fire.

Residents shouldn’t be alarmed to see some fire activity at the base of the slope due to these planned ignitions.

That blaze was last mapped at 343 hectares.

An Incident Management Team has been sent to the Columbia Valley for the Yearling Creek, Horsethief Creek and Mia Creek fires.

The Horsethief Creek fire has grown to over 1,020 Hectares, the Yearling Creek blaze is at 1,175 and the Mia Creek fire is at 881.

Dry lightning and erratic winds are forecasted for Thursday and into Friday.

This could spark more fires and increase fire spread.
