St. Mary Wildfire now approximately 2,600 hectares

Mapping work now shows that the St. Mary Wildfire is 2,601 hectares.

BC Wildfire Service officials said there was heavy fire activity on Wednesday that led to the spread.

Crews completed planned ignitions today to protect residences on the north end of Mission Wasa Low Road.

Officials said they were successful and crews will be monitoring the ignition site.

In the ?aq’am community there are 52 evacuation orders in place and nine on alert.

Under the RDEK, 15 dwellings are evacuated in the Woods Corner East area, nine homes are under alert in the Woods Corner West area and 28 are on alert in the Campsall Road and Fort Steele Area.
