Almost 3,500 BC Hydro customers were left without power on Monday as a windstorm swept through the Cranbrook area.
According to the power company, outages ranged from Moyie, across the west and northern parts of Cranbrook, up to Wardner and east to ʔaq̓am and Fort Steele.
The lights went out for most of the impacted area just before 9:30 p.m., but the power was off for the ʔaq̓am and Fort Steele since about 2 p.m.
One outage impacted 1,985 customers in the area West of 12th Avenue, North of Highway 3/95 and South of Six Mile Spur Road.
Another impacted 1,087 BC Hydro customers in the area west of Mission Road.
Both outages were caused by a tree falling across power lines.
The area ranging from ʔaq̓am in the west, north to Fort Steele and south to Mayook is still without power after if was knocked out early Monday afternoon.
According to BC Hydro, a wire was knocked down, causing a fire and leaving 376 people without power.
Work to restore power has been suspended, but BC Hydro officials estimate the power to come back on by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
