A speed reduction zone will be in place as construction on the Shadow Mountain Sewer Project will move towards Highway 95A.
Drivers will have to slow down between Parnaby Road and the McPhee Bridge as work continues.
City staff said the project may require the closure of the passing lane to give workers room to complete the job safely.
“Travel speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h for the safety of our contractors working on the project site and the driving public,” said city officials. “Please be aware of this speed reduction and watch for and obey any onsite signage. Remember that speed fines double in construction zones.”
According to city officials, the project is moving ahead at a steady pace, with just over one kilometre of pipe already installed.
The new sewer line will take the existing sewer holding tank system out of service.
“The project will construct a new sanitary sewer force main and lift stations connecting the Shadow Mountain neighbourhood to the City’s sewage collection system,” said city officials. “The connection point is at Mennie Road near Echo Field Road.”
City staff said this is being funded by a Local Area Service (LAS) fee, which means only residents in the Shadow Mountain area will have to pay for the project.
“An LAS is the installation of a utility service such as water, sewer, or road that benefits a particular area of residents,” said city staff. “Those specific residents then pay for that service rather than all City of Cranbrook taxpayers paying for the service installation.”
