New fires sparked in East Kootenay

Three new fires were discovered in our region over the weekend, but two are already under control.

The smallest blaze is located just north of the Canada/USA border west of Roosville.

It was discovered on Saturday.

The fire is approximately 0.1 hectares in size, under control and believed to be human-caused.

A 0.3-hectare blaze is also under control near the Bull River FSR. It was discovered on Saturday and is believed to be lightning-caused.

An out-of-control fire is burning near Yearling Creek east of Invermere.

It’s around 2.1 hectares and was discovered on Sunday.

It’s also believed to be lightning-caused.

A fourth fire was discovered on Monday. It’s out of control but still very small.

Its located along Willie Phillips Creek and the cause is still under investigation.
