A Cranbrook lacrosse player is headed to Halifax to represent B.C. in the North American Indigenous Games.
Caelen Cross will be on the B.C. lacrosse team.
Cross explains what the tournament format will look like.
“It’s provincial teams and there’s one United States team. We play three or four round-robin games and then it goes to quarter-finals, semi-finals and then finals.”
He said he’s played against a lot of the players on Team B.C., but it will take some adjusting now that they are teammates.
“I think you just need to go in with an open mindset with new teammates. I’ve actually played against most of my teammates this year so I kind of know a little bit about how they play and adjust to their play styles.”
He’s not sure how good the other teams are, but Cross is sure of B.C.’s ability.
“I think we’re a really strong competitive team. I don’t know the other provinces at all but I’m very confident in our team. The players I know are very good and have a pretty good chance at the provincial championship there.”
Cross also attends RINK Hockey Academy in Kelowna, where former NHLer Jerome Iginla is an instructor.
The 2023 North American Indigenous Games begin on July 15 and will see over 5,000 athletes compete.
