Mainroad East Kootenay to begin road repairs

Mainroad East Kootenay will start work to fix a pair of road washouts near Invermere.

Work is set to begin near Juniper Heights along Highway 93/95, north of Invermere.

Mainroad said work will not impact highway traffic until Wednesday morning.

From there, crews will be active for four days, with the possibility of an extension.

The job will be dependent on the weather.

Elsewhere, Mainroad officials said a section of Westside Road about 5km south of Invermere was washed out after a series of shoulder/embankment failures on June 15.

Crews have not started reconstruction just yet, however.

“Westside road washout repair is currently being reviewed by the Ministry of Transportation and the Geotech,” said Mainroad officials. “There is a speed reduction to 50km at the worksite. Westside road is narrow in the repair sections, please obey all road signs and be cautious of oncoming traffic.”
