Elk Valley RCMP investigating Highway 3 crash

Elk Valley RCMP is looking into a two-vehicle collision along Highway 3, just south of Hosmer and Caldwell Frontage Road.

Police said officers arrived at the scene shortly after noon on Saturday.

Initial reports said two vehicles were involved and were pushed off an embankment, with possible major injuries involved.

Officers said they found a grey Jeep and a black Toyota 4Runner in the northbound ditch, down a 50-foot embankment.

“It appears that the 4Runner had been making a left-hand turn heading northbound on the highway when it was hit from the rear by the Jeep, who was travelling at the speed limit of 100 km/hr, according to witnesses with no attempt to slow down,” said Elk Valley RCMP.

Both drivers were taken to the Fernie Hospital for assessment of their injuries.

Police are still looking into the incident, and anyone who may have seen the incident or caught dash-cam footage is asked to contact the Elk Valley detachment at 250-425-6233.
