Police and search and rescue were called out to Yoho National Park after an accident at Takakkaw Falls.
At around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, the Golden RCMP received an SOS alert from a satellite phone.
A 54-year-old man had slipped and fallen into the water at the head of Takakkaw Falls and had not emerged.
Parks Canada, Search and Rescue and police stayed until around 8 p.m. but weren’t able to locate the body because of high water levels and violent water pressure.
They returned the next morning and recovered the body at around noon.
The BC Coroner’s Service has taken over the investigation.
Victim services are continuing to help the man’s family, who were on vacation in the area.
