The Bull River Shooters Association will host silhouette target shooters from three nations for the first stop on the Lapua Monarch Cup.
The competition will involve off-hand shooters using .22 calibre rifles.
Competitors will have to shoot at a series of metal targets shaped like various animals.
“There are four different distances, with 10 silhouettes of animals at those distances. It’s off-hand with no artificial supports,” explained Jordan Marsh with the Bull River Shooters Association. “Get two and a half minutes to make five shots, you set your rifle down, and you get two and a half minutes for another five shots. The competition is out of 40 shots.”
Competitors from Canada, the United States and Mexico will take part in the event.
“It’s a three-country tournament. So Canada is the first leg, then the USA and then Mexico,” said Marsh. “We are kicking it off at the Bull River Shooting Association in Cranbrook.”
Marsh said the event has support from Cranbrook Tourim and the Columbia Basin Trust.
“We have been putting lots and lots of work in at the range to make it very presentable and accommodating,” said Marsh. “The community has been very supportive and Lapua has put it on our people at the shooting association to put it on.”
Marsh is involved as a match director and a competitor himself.
The first leg of the competition will run from June 25 to 27.
“It’s very spectator and family-friendly. We have an amazing facility out that, so if you want to come watch, please do it,” said March.
Those wanting to watch can visit the shooting range along Mission Fort Steele Road.
