Sparwood’s mayor said the hot tub at the Sparwood Leisure Centre was becoming a money pit and finally needed to be replaced.
“It was a culmination of a number of breakdowns with the old hot tub over the last couple of years,” said mayor David Wilks.
“It was just becoming the neverending money pit and it became apparent that we needed to replace it. We went out and got the tender obviously and we’ve started demolishing it.’
The entire pool is closed until the replacement is made, as other repairs are also going on.
“We did a work order change to include the entire pool area for tiling,” Wilks added.
“The tiles are now over 40 years old. Their life expectancy is 15 years, so we’re a little overdue.”
The pool is expected to be reopened by the end of September.
In the meantime, the fitness centre, courts and climbing wall at the leisure centre will remain open.
