Paragliding accident claims life of Fernie resident

The Elk Valley RCMP has located the body of a 62-year-old paraglider after an accident happened on June 7.

Police said friends of the paraglider contacted police last Wednesday after they hadn’t heard from him hours after paragliding with him earlier that day.

The missing paraglider was carrying a GPS, but there was no movement for over two hours.

Police used the last coordinates and were able to locate the body of a 62-year-old Fernie resident in steep terrain near Mt. Fernie.

The body was recovered by Fernie Search and Rescue and has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service for further investigation.
