Highway 3/93 fatal collision still under investigation

The Cranbrook RCMP is still investigating the fatal collision that claimed three lives last week.

On June 1, at around 8 a.m., police attended an accident between two passenger vehicles and a loaded logging truck approximately 20 kilometres east of Cranbrook.

According to BC Highway Patrol officials, the logging truck was travelling westbound on Highway 3/93 when it experienced a mechanical failure and turned into the eastbound lane, striking a Chevrolet Suburban.

A second passenger vehicle was able to veer away from the collision and go off the road.

Sadly, all three occupants of the Suburban were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said the driver of the logging truck was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Highway was closed until the evening.

The Cranbrook RCMP is working with Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services, Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement and Worksafe BC to further the investigation.

No further details will be released at this time.

Anyone with dash cam footage or information is asked to call the Cranbrook detachment.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the family of those killed.

It was posted two days ago and has already raised over $55,000.
