Southeast excluded from province-spanning fire ban

A campfire ban is set to go into effect for most of B.C. on Wednesday, but the Southeast Fire Centre will be excluded for now.

BC Wildfire Service officials said you will not be allowed to light a fire of any size in most of the province as of noon Pacific Time.

Those in the Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdiction can still have a fire up to half a metre in size in any direction.

The southeastern part of B.C. is likely to get some rain in the days ahead, according to Environment Canada’s forecast.

That said, conditions may change and the BC Wildfire Service could impose more bans as needed.

The province-wide ban on category 2 and 3 fires is still in effect.

You are also not allowed to use the following:

  • Fireworks
  • Sky lanterns
  • Burn barrels or cages
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Tiki and similar kinds of torches
  • Chimineas
  • Air curtain burners

Outdoor stoves are excluded from the fire ban.
