The BCHL is hoping to cut down on the number of shootouts deciding games, with some changes to overtime.
The league’s governors voted unanimously to change the format for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Overtimes will now be 10 minutes of 3-on-3 hockey. If the game is still tied after those 10 minutes, the game will go to a shootout.
Overtimes have been 3-on-3 for five minutes. Under that format, 41.5 per cent of overtime games went to a shootout.
