Elk Valley RCMP issue reminder on railway safety

The Elk Valley RCMP is reminding people to stay off of railway tracks after a group of people were seen hanging out on the tracks near the Olsen rest area.

Police got a call from CP Rail saying a group of 15 individuals were sitting on the tracks.

The group moved when the conductor blew a warning whistle but returned to walking on the tracks once the train passed.

Police tried to find the group but were unable to locate them.

They want to remind the public that train tracks and the area extending out to 50 feet on either side is private property and crossing into that space is trespassing and illegal.

Police urge residents to stay away from any local railway for their own safety.
