The City of Fernie is reminding residents that they need to have a permit to have a backyard campfire in city limits.
Permits need to be renewed annually and cost $30.
You won’t need to pay the fee again once it expires as long as the campfire is in the same location, but you still need to fill out a new form.
Those caught roasting weenies or making smores in their backyard without a permit could be on the hook for a $1,000 fine.
Category 2 and 3 open burns have been prohibited in our region.
Setting-off fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, burn barrels and air curtain burners are also banned under Categories 2 and 3.
