Sweetheart Youth Ambassador Program Accepting Applications

The Sweetheart Society is now accepting applications for the 2020 Sweetheart Youth Ambassador Program, for girls in Grades 10 and 11 in Cranbrook that want to pursue the six-month youth leadership program.

2020 marks the 55th year for the Sweetheart Society in Cranbrook, as the program’s deep roots are intertwined throughout the community.

The self-development and youth leadership program will allow the candidates to potentially become Cranbrook’s official Youth Ambassador as they participate in the Sam Steele Days pageant and earn scholarship rewards.

“We provide training in everything from public speaking and resume writing to interview skills and budgeting,” said Karin Penner, Coordinator with the Sweetheart Society. “We are also big on being part of the community. From rolling up our sleeves with the kids at the Children’s Festival to raising money for our charity of choice, we have a lot of fun volunteering with our youth ambassador team in the community.”

Each year, a $500 scholarship is awarded to the Sam Steele Sweetheart and the Sam Steele Princess, as well as $500 and $250 scholarships for community awareness and talent.

“We recognize some people may not be aware of the program, or may have questions about it if their daughter is interested in applying,” said Penner. “To help provide more detailed information we will be hosting an Information Night and we encourage potential candidates and parents to join us.”

The Information Night will be held Monday, November 25th at 7:00 pm at Cranbrook’s Heritage Inn.

All applications from Grade 10 and 11 girls in Cranbrook will be accepted up until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4th.
