Peyton Krebs has inked a three-year entry-level contract with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Krebs, the last captain of the now-defunct Kootenay Ice, was drafted 17th overall by the Golden Knights in the 2019 NHL Draft.
During his time in Cranbrook with the Ice, Krebs collected 129 points (37G, 92A) and played 137 games.
Krebs was selected first overall by Kootenay in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft under the ownership and management of Jeff Chynoweth following a 102 point (45G, 56A) season in 27 games with the Rocky Mountain Raiders Bantam AAA team in his hometown of Okotoks, AB.
The former Kootenay Ice star also has plenty of international experience with Team Canada, winning gold in 2018 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, earning silver at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, and captained Canada at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, where they lost 5-2 to the United States in the bronze medal game.
Although signing his entry-level deal with Vegas, Krebs hasn’t seen much ice time this year. During an on-ice training session, this off-season Krebs suffered a partially torn Achilles tendon, which sidelined him for the start of the WHL season and kept him on the sidelines for the Ice’s move to Winnipeg. Krebs suited up in his first game for Winnipeg on Sunday, collecting one assist in a 4-1 loss to the Portland Winterhawks.
Now back in the lineup following his injury, and officially signing with the Golden Knights, Krebs will look for a strong season in the WHL and make his push for the NHL roster in 2020/2021.
As well, it is anticipated that Krebs will have a strong chance of playing for Team Canada at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic this holiday season.
