Construction begins on Fernie’s revamped skate park

The City of Fernie is saying ‘see you later, boy’ to its old skate park as demolition gets underway.

City officials said work began on Monday to remove the old infrastructure and make way for a new, revamped park.

Construction on the $1.28 million grant-funded park will take place over the summer, with the new skatepark expected to wrap up by the fall.

Fencing will be set up around the site and park area, and residents are asked to respect all signage.

“Thank you to the many members of our community who participated in the in-person workshops and online surveys to help finalize the design,” said city officials. “We can’t wait to see the skatepark take shape over the coming months.”

Skateboarders will not be left without options, however, as a temporary skatepark has been set up in Prentice Park in the meantime.
