Environment Canada warns of unseasonably high temperatures

Environment Canada is predicting unseasonably high temperatures to come in on Friday and stick around until Tuesday.

The forecaster is predicting daytime highs to reach the mid-30s in the central and southern parts of the Interior.

Meanwhile, northern parts of the region should reach the mid to high 20s.

Overnight and early morning temperatures are expected to reach down to the low to mid-teens.

The hottest temperatures are expected to last from Sunday to Tuesday.

“Daytime highs will be 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above seasonal values while overnight lows will be 5 to 10 degrees above what is normally experienced this time of year,” said Environment Canada officials.”

Officials said the high temperatures will also contribute to increased snowpack melting, further adding to the possibility of local flooding.

The increased temperatures may also heighten the risk of heat-related illnesses.

“While the developing heat conditions may well result in daily
temperature records being broken, it must be emphasized that the
expected hot conditions will not approach those reached during the
‘Heat Dome’ of late June 2021,” said Environment Canada.
