Cranbrook Sled Dogs Appear in Amazon Commercial

Six local huskies made their way to Vancouver to appear in Amazon’s latest holiday commercial.

Their handlers said to took about an hour to get the shot just right and appear about halfway through the ad.

“They wanted the dogs to run around a post,” said handler Samantha Friesen. “There were a couple of clips where the dogs decided they were going to run in the opposite direction.”

The six huskies and their owner, Margie Leopold made their way to Vancouver over the summer in a minivan with a dog sled on the roof.

“We had many people stop us, wondering what we were doing with all these dogs and where we were going to find the snow to run them with the dog sled,” Leopold said. “We had quite a following with us going down and back to Vancouver. The dogs are used to travelling lots for shows.”

Leopold breeds huskies, and takes them for recreational sled runs, on top of participating in dog shows.

Some of the dogs have even performed on screen in past.

“Three of the six dogs have done a commercial before,” said Leopold. “It was in 2016 for the Land Rover. Those dogs already knew how to act around a film crew.”

Leopold was also in the commercial, she was driving the dog sled through the scene.

With their television appearances, the actors seem to have let the fame go to their heads.

“They think they’re pretty special, they want to live up on the couch all the time now,” Leopold said. “They don’t even know what they’ve done. They’re just amazing, in my mind.

Leopold is the owner of Pretty Pooch Paws n’ Spa, and all of her dogs live with her as pets.

The dogs featured in the commercial are named Moon, Rio, Blitz, Eura, Strider and Nash.

The commercial can be found here.
