Fatality reported in Highway 1 crash near Field

A passenger was killed in a Wednesday accident inside the west gate of Yoho National Park near Field.

The Golden RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to the crash at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Officials said a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser was travelling westbound and crossed the centre line of the highway and continued down a steep embankment.

A woman in her 30s was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police believe she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt.

The driver was a man in his 50s from Kelowna. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they are continuing to investigate and haven’t ruled out impaired driving.
