Dangerous driving leads to hospitalization in Columbia Valley

Police in the Columbia Valley are investigating after a driver drove into a residence and was seen driving dangerously before striking a boulder and a power pole.

Police said they received a report on April 10 that a blue SUV drove into a residence off Burns Avenue in Canal Flats.

Police received multiple calls that the same vehicle continued to drive dangerously in the area and struck a large boulder and power pole.

The SUV caught on fire with the driver still inside.

Police said bystanders and the local fire department were able to extract the driver before police arrived and put out the blaze.

The driver was taken to hospital in Cranbrook and police are continuing their investigation.
