Our local politicians won’t be taking any vacations in Russia anytime soon.
In fact, MLAs Tom Shypitka and Doug Clovechok have been permanently banned from entering the country.
They join our local MP Rob Morrison who was banned in March 2022.
333 Canadian citizens were listed in this round of permanent bans.

Most are federal or provincial politicians, but a number of high-profile athletes were also included, such as Olympians Hayley Wickenheiser and Kaillie Humphries.
The bans were in response to anti-Russian sanctions from the Candian Government.
The athletes that made the list all signed a letter supporting the removal of Russian athletes from competing in the 2024 Olympics.
